IDENTIFICATION AND BIO:
A modern dance choreographer who, until the early 1990s, maintained a company in New York, Rachel Lampert often assumes an autobiographical slant in her work. Her Inventory 1990 (1990) deals with having to say goodbye to T.J. Myers, one of her dancers who at the time of the piece's creation was struggling with HIV/AIDS-related illnesses. Myers, who was also one of the five original members of the singing group The Flirtations, has since died. In a phone interview (c. 16 October 2000), Lampert described Inventory 1990 as a work that is not elegiac, but rather quite upbeat. Myers's slow leave-taking transforms into the metaphor of his moving to San Francisco, accompanied by a bevy of beautiful male angels who lift him up so that his feet never touch the ground. Lampert explained that she closed her dance company because of AIDS and the toll it had taken on her. She now writes plays for young audiences, often on the theme of HIV/AIDS prevention, and produces them through the Kitchen Theater Company in Ithaca, New York.

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:
From an email communication dated 30 July 2003:
"The play Bet You Can't Catch It? was performed from 1998-2001 by the AIDSWORK Community Theatre of Tompkins County. This was a group of teenagers who were from the Ithaca, New York, area who were actor/activists. I was commissioned to write the play and directed the group. They toured upstate performing in schools and community centers. The play reached thousands of young people. It discusses issues of HIV and STD education through a series of scenes. The project was sponsored by AIDSWORK of Tompkins County (now combined with another upstate agency with a new name: AIDSWORK of the Southern Tier). The play is available to be staged by other groups. I hold the rights to the piece. The small fee I require for the use of the script is contributed to Southern Tier AIDSWORK."
