IDENTIFICATION AND BIO:
A modern dance choreographer who has also completed creative work in ballet, musical theater, and ice-skating idioms, Lar Lubovitch has played a key role in raising funds to fight AIDS. First, he was the prime mover behind Dancing for Life (1987), the first major AIDS benefit put on by a united group of dance companies in New York City. Second, the central male duet from his Concerto Six Twenty-Two (1986) is widely regarded as the anthem for the AIDS era, partly on account of its being featured at the 1987 benefit, which was held at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center. The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1998.

IMMEDIATE NEEDS
(archival assistance? storage? other?):
Dick Caples explains that the company does not focus on past repertory. The company does not tour, in favor of creating and performing new works in New York. The consequence is that, “slowly, gradually, over time these pieces are being forgotten.” Per Caples, it would be especially important to notate the duet from Concerto Six Twenty-Two, which is "widely regarded as Lar's signature."
