    Graduate, U.S. Armed Forces Music Academy, Virginia
    Studied at The Juilliard School

    Richard Alan was a graduate of the U.S. Armed Forces Music Academy and a member of the 389th United States Army Band. He also attended The Juilliard School.

    He had a 19 year career as a composer, conductor and pianist. On Broadway, he was assistant conductor/pianist for Aspects of Love, The Phantom of the Opera and The Will Rogers Follies. He also worked in numerous regional theatre productions of musicals such as Carousel, Sweeney Todd and Oklahoma.

    Alan was involved in several productions at Walt Disney World, and was talent coordinator for specials at Walt Disney-MGM Studios in Florida. He played piano at several official White House dinners during the Reagan administration.

    As a composer, he wrote and arranged the theme to HBO's We're Talkin' Big Time. He also wrote, arranged and directed A Sparkling Christmas Spectacular as a benefit for the Mid-Fairfield AIDS Project in Rhode Island.

    Richard Alan died of AIDS in Branford, Connecticut at the age of 37 on October 23, 1999.
