Lawrence Cave lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 1986 to 1994. He held the position of tutor at St. John's College, and was a choral director and lecturer for the Sante Fe Opera.
His last work, Goblin Market, to a text by Christina Rossetti, was premiered two weeks after his death by the Sante Fe Women's Ensemble.
Lawrence Cave died of AIDS in Oberlin, Ohio at the age of 36 on April 12, 1996.
