IDENTIFICATION AND BIO:
Composer, Musical Director, Performer
Robert Moore moved to New Orleans in the early 1970s and became a fixture in the city's theatre life. He began as a performer at the Gallery Circle Theatre in the musical Hair, but was best known as a composer and musical director for productions at several theatres and schools.
In the seasons just prior to his death Moore wrote incidental music for a number of theatrical productions, including Richard III at the Peristyle in City Park, Frankenstein at Loyola University and Moby Dick at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center, and was at work on an original musical, Slasher, a spoof of "slasher" movies. While living at Lazarus House during the last stages of his illness, he continued working as musical director for The Wiz at Benjamin Franklin High School.
Robert Moore died of AIDS in New Orleans at the age of 42 on January 7, 1996.
