Some of the works in The Body (Politic) express the sexuality and
fantasies of artists living with HIV/AIDS, however the selection does
not do justice to the range of works in this genre, which are included in
the Virtual Collection. Within the gallery, we can refer back to De
Sana's self-portrait which captures the sheer animal fervor of sexual
arousal; other works by De Sana in the database which are not included
here consider sexuality with equal humor and lightheartedness.

The work
of Alan H. Cheung makes public a formerly hidden aspect of Asian
society and uses the traditions of Chinese scroll painting to explore
differing norms of love and sexual expression. Like Moore's work,
Cheung's paintings benefit from a close examination using the Virtual
Collection's zoom and "range" tools, in order to fully appreciate the
many details of each tableau. The artist shows erotic components in
all aspects of life, highlighting, sometimes humorously, the close
relationship between the mundane and sensual. He brings the ancient
Eastern traditions of erotic art into a modern context.
