A combination of notation and video is the ideal method for documenting your work. You may want to include a plan for documenting your work early in the process of making it. While Dance Notation Bureau is a nonprofit service organization, the time and expense of notation precludes the organization from notating the work of everyone who applies.
The strategy of appointing a knowledgeable person to care for your art applies equally well to dance. With adequate time and thought you may be able to find a trusted friend or colleague who understands the special needs of your work. Remember that this person may not be the same person who deals with the rest of your estate.
Grants
One organization currently providing grants to people with AIDS in the dance world is San Francisco's Parachute Fund. It awards grants of up to $500 per month for any purpose. This program is limited to the San Francisco area. Other programs are offered by the Actor's Fund of America and Dancers Responding to AIDS. Call for information and aplications.
Working as a choreographer or dancer with AIDS you face many challenges in giving your work and career a continuing life. However, your health status can act as the impetus for you to carefully document your work
an act that can benefit the entire dance community.
